I bought a Nintendo Wii that I found at the nearby Goodwill just to see what games the previous owner left on there. Some solid classics, and there was even a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl sitting in the disc tray. Since the Nintendo Wii didn’t tie digital games to a user’s account (perhaps the last time we had this luxury [edit: oh the Wii U had offline digital games as well]), it’s very possible to just go out and buy Wii consoles on the cheap and amass a collection of digital games purchased by others.

As I tweaked the settings, I discovered that this console had the parental controls enabled. This prohibits access to certain functionality. While you might’ve once had to call a phone number to disable those annoying restrictions, now there’s a handy website that makes it easy to disable a used Wii’s parental controls: https://wii.marcan.st/parental.
