Chile verde burrito from El Guajillo on 99W. Tigard, OR.
Probably the first time I’ve ordered chile verde.

Al pastor burrito from El Perico y Taqueria on SW Allen Blvd. Beaverton, OR.
Pretty good bar burrito, though greasier than al pastor usually gets. Burritos are $5 and tacos only $1.
I want to read books that were written in desperation, by people who are disturbed and overtaxed, who balance on the extreme edge of experience. I want to read books by people who are acutely aware that death is coming and that abiding love is our last resort.
Year in Reading alumna Sarah Manguso writes about motherhood, writing, and the disintegration of the self in a moving essay for Harper’s.

Adobada burrito from Muchas Gracias on NW 188th Ave. Hillsboro, OR.
Hm, okay taste but lacking some kick. The lukewarm refried beans didn’t help. Think I’ll try their breakfast burrito next time.

Al pastor burrito from King Burrito on N Lombard St. Portland, OR.
Oh my.
This is one of those places that gets name dropped in best Portland burrito discussions. No rice, refried beans, but the meat is gooood. This version of al pastor is more like marinated carnitas, and it’s only $5. I see why people dig it.

San Diego burrito from Las Casitas on SW Boones Ferry Rd. Tualatin, OR.
I’ll be venturing out to new places but had to grab one of these first. Pretty good, though not as good as the asada/fries combo from Muchas Gracias. The fries were mushy by comparison.

Ham breakfast burrito from Lincoln Center Cafe on SW Greenburg Rd. Tigard, OR.
About what I expected. Curiosity just got the better of me when I saw it on the menu. “Burrito” is like seeing red, you know?
Some travels ahead. Who knows what I’ll find? (Probably 65 more burritos.)
