A Simple Favor

First, you know, this movie’s great. Well-directed and shot and the actors all nail their parts. Its two genres achieve harmony. I’ve also never cared about Blake Lively until this and, uh, yes.

Do you like secrets? Not in the sense of keeping them, because whatever, we all keep secrets, but just their existence. There is information in each of us that we want to keep hidden. Little hints that someone is keeping something to themselves. The information is secondary to the satisfaction of revelation, or at least the bit of thrill after recognizing the potential. I figure anyone who reads thriller novels probably gets their fix that way instead of worrying about actual secrets, but every once in a while there’s a silver dollar in the sand.

And that’s what this movie felt like, coming out of the theater. Like recognizing something hidden. A hint of darkness behind a jovial disposition.
