Al pastor burrito from La Norteña Market on SW 124th Avenue. Beaverton, OR.

Ah, a good question from writersrandomramblings: do I lose or gain weight during this crazy endeavor?

The good news is a burrito is a meal in and of itself. Beans, rice, meat. The type of meat can certainly make a difference, i.e. chicken vs. carnitas. I don’t usually get cheese, sour cream, or guac. It’s pretty simple and if my other meals are light I tend to lose weight. It’s the same metabolism I’ve been abusing for years.

However, I don’t eat light meals as often as I should. I’ll eat rich foods and have some beer when I’m out. I’m also behind on burritos by about seven days, so sometimes I’ll eat two of them in one day. This means I lose a few pounds and then gain those pounds back each week, maintaining the status quo. I weigh in around the mid-200s so–surprise!–I just need to exercise regularly to see significant weight loss.

That’s a nice side challenge for the rest of the year. (Lower priority than burritos obvs.) Can I lose weight and get healthier while eating burritos daily? Let’s find out!
