Flashback to very specific memories of going to arcades located in the ruins of former department stores, often in white flight neighborhoods such as Huntington Park in Los Angeles. The generic walls, fluorescent lighting, dull carpet. The sharpest memory is walking into what felt like the basement level of one of these places and it feeling like Escape from New York. I don’t think I’d seek these out today (if any still exist), but it sure is a strong vibe.
