Chicken Mexicano burrito from Green Burrito on SW 95TH Avenue. Wilsonvile, OR.

Someone asked about burritos from chain restaurants. The comparison was Chipotle vs. Taco Bell. I reckon each burrito has its time and place.

Chipotle has higher quality ingredients, of course, but their burrito construction is sub-par.

The tortillas are a bit weak and their approach is to fill the burrito so it’s ready to burst.

They also don’t use Mexican rice which I’ve called out before as an issue. The rice is dry and doesn’t hold together well. Are their beans whole pinto or refried? It’s been so long since I had one of those burritos that I forget. That said, if I’m out someplace where I can’t find a taqueria and it’s still early in the day, I’ll go for one of these and smdh when it falls apart.

Taco Bell is good late in the evening or when I’ve had a long night and don’t want to get out of my car. (Though there are good burritos to be found at drive-throughs if you look hard enough.) I usually get the chicken grilled stuft burrito to get as close as I can to taqueria fare. And of course sometimes you’re just strapped for cash and are in need of a burrito fix.

This particular burrito from the Carl’s Jr./Green Burrito chain was a burrito of convenience at a late hour. I’d gone to drawing class and didn’t get out until 9:00 PM, then didn’t get near home until 9:50. I hadn’t had a burrito yet. Badabing, badaboom.
