Pollo al pastor burrito from Sanchez Taqueria on 99W. Tigard, OR.

I should talk about this burrito because if it’s not my #1 repeat order it’s certainly in the top 3.

  • Tortilla dropped on the skillet long enough to crisp it slightly. Gives it a nice texture and doesn’t stick to your hands the way steamed tortillas are wont to do.
  • Pollo al pastor – Al pastor is traditionally pork, and I haven’t seen any place stray from that except for Sanchez. I’d order just plain ol’ al pastor but a chicken burrito a day is healthier than pork every day, right?! Plus it tastes amazing. I’m spoiled now and struggle with ordering chicken burritos at other places because they’re often relatively bland. The pollo al pastor includes bits of caramelized onion from the preparation.
  • Beans – Refried. This is a bummer but I’m so used to it by now that I can’t imagine whole pinto beans in this burrito.
  • Rice – Traditional Mexican rice.
  • Cabbage – This fucking weird burrito has shredded cabbage and I like it, god help me. It adds a nice crunch to every bite. My only gripe is they sometimes add a little too much or it’s still slightly cold. A weird contrast. But those instances are rare.
  • Others – Cilantro, green and red sauce. Neither sauce is terribly hot. The green is mild but tangy, while the red has an earthy flavor, which probably means the chiles were dropped on a skillet to blacken them a bit for the sauce. I usually just alternate between red and green sauce poured on with each bite.

My bay area burrito persona balks at this, but man it’s good.
