HALP! I am trying to compile the most thorough list I can of horror movies that were marketed as being based on actual events–perhaps especially if that claim is extremely tenuous and abstract, or the “true story” itself is in question.
*I would like to omit movies based on specific, well-known serial killers, which are kind of in their own class.
*I would accept movies like THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, whose origins were purposefully kept ambiguous until its release…though I don’t know how many of those there are!
*Unless you have a great exception, I’d like to stick with movies that were specifically advertised as factual–for instance, we all know that SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was inspired by Ed Gein on some level, but that wasn’t an important part of the marketing campaign.
