Burn After Reading dir. Joel Coen & Ethan Coen (2008)
A peculiar little story. It’s like they’re chasing some high they felt in the nineties but it just doesn’t quite match the experience they had back then. I liked the dildo chair subplot though.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark dir. André Øvredal (2019)
They went for it. I read these books as a kid and some of them will absolutely traumatize a child. I’m looking at you, Harold. They also deal with some heady issues and all the fuck-yous to Nixon were nice. I’m all for fuck-yous to shitty leaders.
Black Mirror – Seasons 4 & 5 (2017, 2019)
The overwhelming feeling I had in these final seasons was that the show has lost its teeth now that our reality is so warped and our governments and media leaders gaslight us at every available opportunity. Black Museum might be my favorite because I love a good anthology story (like White Christmas before it).
Mindhunter – Season 2 (2019)
They backed away from Holden being a sociopath and I’m not here for it. Now they’re trying to build him up as the one guy in the FBI who truly cares about the unheard cries for help in the black community. Get that outta here. They also screwed Wendy’s character by giving her so little to do. She’s the best part of the show, you damn fools.
